Meet the Team

Northland Arboretum Staff

Trevor Pumnea

Executive Director

Trevor came to the Arboretum in 2023. He has a background as a director of parks and recreation and as a former university faculty member. When Trevor is not working you can find him hiking, biking, camping, hunting, and playing competitive disc golf. Trevor shares, "My favorite part of being Director is seeing the difference we can make in our community. The Arboretum really is an amazing asset to Crow Wing County residents and visitors."

Kelly Hughes

Events Coordinator

Kelly is our Events Coordinator. She handles the planning and execution of the many events and educational classes that take place at the Arb. 

​

She enjoys working at the Arb because there is never a dull moment and the staff is fun and dedicated, she also loves the gardening tips and tricks she learns from our volunteers. She is thankful for all the great people she has met because of her position at the Arb. Kelly has an eye for design. She went to school for Graphic Arts, and she loves using this passion to make marketing materials for the Arb, as well as helping decorate and plan events that are appealing to the eye. In her spare time Kelly enjoys hanging out with family & friends, shopping, gardening, crafting, and decorating.

Grounds & Maintenance Supervisor

Rick Hines

Rick is our Ground & Maintenance Supervisor. He is responsible for leading our grounds crew and keeping the grounds ready for our guests.

​

The Arb has always been a part of Rick’s life. He worked at the Arb when he was17 for Rudy Hillig. This turned into a friendship throughout his life.  His coworker’s, plus the people he meets while on the job, have become friends and make the Arb a place he loves to go every day. He does not even consider it a job.  

​

Rick and outdoors are one. When not working he can be found hunting, fishing, trapping, etc. In addition to his work in the outdoors he loves working on vehicles and spending time with his family.

Rob Carlson

Assistant Grounds & Maintenance Supervisor

Rob is our Assistant Grounds & Maintenance Supervisor. He is Ricks right hand man and he does a great job helping lead our grounds crew and volunteers daily. Whatever the project, you can count on Rob to get it done. Rob also handles the ordering of maintenace and cleaning supplies for the office, as well as the internal communication on behalf of the grounds crew. Rob shares, ""I love my job because of the team I work with. They are fun and easy to work with and there is never a dull moment. "

In his spare time Rob enjoys hunting, fishing, playing music, and being with friends and family. 

Lacey Doboszenski

Marketing & Membership Coordinator

Lacey is our Marketing & Membership Coordinator. She keeps track of our valued members and handles our social media accounts, website, and other marketing and office tasks.

​

Lacey is an adventure and nature enthusiast. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stout with a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management and a minor in Speech Communication. In addition to working at the Arboretum Lacey is a yoga teacher and gymnastics coach at the Brainerd Family YMCA and writer for Lake Country Journal Magazine. In her spare time, she loves hiking, biking, running, cooking, snowboarding, fishing, and spending time with her family and friends. She is also an avid traveler and especially loves cross country road trips and exploring Americas National Parks.

Jane Stevens

Education Coordinator

Jane Stevens is our Education Coordinator. She handles all things Nature Camp and assists with our educational classes and community outreach. Jane enjoys working with children and having the freedom to creatively share nature with the next generations! Jane received her Associate of Applied Science in Natural Resources, as well as a Wildlife Tourism Certificate from Central Lakes College, and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Crown College.

She is a nature lover at heart and enjoys anything that takes her outdoors and into the woods, or onto the lake. She enjoys picking and pressing wildflowers, photography, kayaking, hiking, biking, bird watching, working in her native wildflower garden, and spending time with her family and friends. Jane is also a Master Naturalist, a member of the FocalPoint Photography Club and a member of the Brainerd Lakes Area Audubon Club.  

Trevor Davies

Volunteer Coordinator & Education Assistant

Trevor joins us as our new Volunteer Coordinator & Education Assistant. He helps connect people with volunteer opportunities within the Arboretum, and keeps track of the many great volunteers we already have. He also assists teaching children at our Nature Camps!

Trevor loves working and teaching outdoors. He has a lot of experience teaching children in settings similar to the Arboretum. He is a lover of animals and has extensive experience working with animals in various settings, if you ask him, he will show you AMAZING videos of his encounters from around the world! He enjoys using “nature’s classroom” to teach people the joy and wonder of the natural world. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, kayaking and mountain biking.

Trista Pikula

Grounds & Maintenance

Trista is part of our Grounds & Maintenance Crew. Trista is fun loving, bold and quick-witted. She can be counted on to handle any situation that is thrown her way. She lives her life by the motto, "strive to be better than I was yesterday." When Trista is not working, she enjoys playing softball and spending time with her family. Trista enjoys working at the Arb. She shares, "I love my job because I get to spend time outdoors and every day provides a unique challenge. "

Logan Falk

Grounds & Maintenance

Logan is a part of our Maintenance crew. He is always ready to step in wherever needed. Logan brings a positive attitude to work and can always be counted on to lighten the mood with a joke or silly comment. Logan enjoys working at the Arb becasue he likes being in nature and watching the changing seasons. In his spare time, he enjoys Pokémon, D&D, NBA, and WWE. 

Loni Heldt

Administrative Assistant

Loni has held many positions at the Northland Arboretum over the years. Loni pays great attention to details and can always be counted on to know the right way to get things done. Loni currently assists our Event Coordinator and also steps in to help all other staff members when needed. Loni also works the front desk during the day on weekends and security on evenings during events. The staff is very thankful for Loni. When Loni is not working at the Arb, she loves spending time with her family and her adorable dog, who can sometimes be found assisting her at the Arb.
