Operation Grow and Learn
Operation Grow and Learn, a program sponsored by the Northland Arboretum, not only is a program where plants grow, but where young adults grow valuable skills.
Operation Grow and Learn is a two week program for at-risk youth ranging from ages 14-21 or youth with disabilities. Students learn horticulture, plant identification, landscaping skills that include planting trees, shrubs and other plants, as well as constuction skills.
The students have to come to the arboretum from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday during the two week program. The students have to bring their own lunch and punch in and out, as they would in a real job.
The students get to experience what it is really like to have a job and they experience the structure by following rules and listening to the instructors.
The program is a great experience for anyone who needs direction.
